Sumie

My interest in sumie came from my search for a way of expressing complex concepts in a clear straightforward way. Sumie seems to use very few strokes of brush, but every each one of them is anticipated by the artist way before the actual painting takes place. The strokes are clear, balanced and confident. The output depends not just on the technique used by the artist, but mostly on his state of mind. Without the 'right frames' a sumie painting just can not be born. Although strange to the concept of modern art, many sumie paintings fail with the first stroke of brush.
